YEAR NINE MEDIA
Students will work towards planning and creating a music video production,
and designing corresponding album artwork.
Working through the media production process students need to explore, develop and refine their ideas to plan for their productions throughout the semester, then create,
edit and present their finals!
FROM A YEAR NINE MEDIA STUDENT:
I selected media as one of my electives because I found the whole concept of analysing media products and furthering my knowledge in this topic would be interesting. As well as this I was interested and enjoyed learning about film analysis in in my English class and wanted to pursue this in Media.
This year we have started an assessment task based on creating a music video and album artwork for a song of our choice. So far we’ve worked on our production design plan, which is the development and planning stage for the final products.
My favourite part of the course so far has been learning and seeing how a music video is put together, and how much planning and thought is put in. Another one of my favourite parts of this course has been being able to learn about a subject that I’m passionate about.
A skill I’ve been able to take away from this is being able to appreciate a media product because I now know how much effort it takes to produce something like that. I also believe that my writing skills have improved because I find it a lot easier to be able to describe what I’m looking at or analysing.
My biggest take away from media is how much effort and time it takes to make a media product whether its a music video or a film, because there is a lot of thought that goes into making either one. Another take away from media for me was that I’ve been able to go through that process and create something I’m proud of.
YEAR TEN MEDIA
Students will work towards planning and creating a documentary or mockumentary production, and designing a promotional poster.

In 2020 students who completed Year 10 Media were asked to complete a YouTube video, see below for a sample.
FROM A YEAR TEN MEDIA STUDENT:
Why did you select Media?
It was something that really intrigued me, and I have always known that I want my future career to entail media. I found that choosing it as a subject would further benefit me in my future endeavours.
What have you been working on this year in Media?
We are creating a Youtube video. We were given the decision between a how-to video or a vlog. These are two options that provide us with a range of different concepts and ideas.
What has been your favourite part of the course?
My favourite part is how the class so relaxed. The course is very independent and you get to learn a lot from the people around you. You understand your ideas and you get to turn them to reality. It’s a really good subject for elaborative minds.
What skills have you developed as a part of this course?
I have become a lot more creative as well as efficient in completing my work. .
What is your biggest take away from Media?
I am more confident in filling in production design plans and my ability to film and create valuable products. I believe the skills I have taken away from media so far, are putting me on the right track towards what I want to become. I usually don’t like analysis but I’ve learnt to enjoy it and developed my skills, media also makes it so much easier to enjoy what I am learning about.
YEAR ELEVEN MEDIA
Students will explore media theory surrounding the importance of representation, Australian stories, and the impact of new media. This will be explored through a variety of media formats, genres and stories. They will also develop their practise and understanding of the media production process and media technologies through both individual and collaborative productions.
Sample 1: Unit 1, Outcome 2
Students work individually to create their own remix trailer. Students chose a film they wanted to carefully edit, to tell an alternative story and a contrasting genre.
Sample 2: Unit 2 Outcome 2
Students collaborate in small groups to create a short film task and promotional materials. Students work within an allocated specialist role of either producer, director, camera operator, editor or production designer.
Sample 3: Unit 2, Outcome 3
Students work individually to create a podcast, about recent media technology, issue or trend. Throughout their podcast episode they discuss the broader impact or change that this media technology, issue or trend has meant for the industry, culture, economy, audiences, government, ethics and society.
Throughout all productions created in Media, the student has to carefully consider the audience, the production is intended for.
YEAR TWELVE MEDIA
Students will explore media theory surrounding film analysis with consideration of how representation, discourse and ideology are embedded into media products, informing social understanding. Also how the media presents complex issues for broader society surrounding agency and control of the media and it’s audience.
They will also develop their practise and understanding of the media production process and media technologies through the development of a media production, throughout the duration of the year.
Media forms include: Film, Photograph, Print, Animation or Audio.
